My Personal and Professional Story

A Brief History

My name is Sharon Dottin, and I’m coming to you “live” from Herndon, Virginia, one of the many
lovely suburbs just outside Washington, D.C.  I was actually born in Washington, DC, but
migrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada at an early age.

Personal Background

I met and married my husband while we were both attending college at McGill University.  I
completed my Bachelors Degree as well as a Graduate Diploma in Public Accounting, and then
chose to broaden my scope with an MBA in Computer-Based Information Systems.  By the time
I completed my schooling, I had already given birth to all three of our children, who are now 21,
17, and 15.  Six years ago, my husband and I relocated the family here to Northern Virginia, and
we have never regretted our decision.  The transition has been a smooth one, and everyone
seems to have adapted very well to the new environment.

Career Background

My career background has been in financial accounting and reporting, and I am currently a
controller for a commercial mortgage banking firm in Arlington, Virginia.  Many years ago I had
some experience teaching evening classes in computer software at an adult learning facility,
and greatly enjoyed the experience.  I am now preparing myself to teach online courses on a
part-time basis, and then gradually transition full-time into adult education - distance learning
as a second career.  My philosophy is that the only thing constant in life is change, and the
change will set you free!
